Diann Robards
East Wenatchee, WA
Diann Robards, 72, passed away August 29, 2016, surrounded by her loving
family. Diann was born on October 10, 1943, to Robert and Katherine Stallman
in Spokane, WA. She attended her early school years there and later, lived in
the Coulee Dam and Bridgeport area, as her father worked on the construction
and maintenance of the dams. They moved to Wenatchee, where she attended
Wenatchee High School, graduating in 1962.
Diann met Steve Robards early in 1964 and they were married in August of that
year. The following years, she followed Steve to New Jersey and California to
put in his military time, which eventually sent him to Turkey for a year,
while Diann stayed in Wenatchee. Diann and Steve moved around the state as
Steve worked for the Department of Fish and Wildlife, managing fish
hatcheries. During this time, they had two daughters, Wendy and Leanne, which
became the center of her life. As the girls got older, Diann started
volunteering in the local school in the Special Education classroom and fell
in love with working with the kids and eventually ended up with an Aide
position in Yakima and later, Chelan. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and
gardening.
A new excitement and love came into her life with the addition of
grandchildren to nurture and care for. The grandkids would visit Steve and
Diann at the Chelan Fish Hatchery and soon they were affectionately called
Grandma and Grandpa Fish. With Steve’s pending retirement, they bought a house
in East Wenatchee, WA, and were near her daughter, Leanne, and the three
grandkids, so lots of special time with them was enjoyed. Not too many years
later came another very special event, as they were blessed with three great-
grandchildren that she dearly loved and enjoyed.
Diann is survived by her husband, Steve Robards; daughters: Wendy Robards
(Dan) of Seattle, WA, and Leanne Miller (Scott) of East Wenatchee, WA; sister,
Marilyn McComas (Doug) of Wenatchee, WA; brother, Dale Stallman (Linda) of
Vancouver, WA; grandchildren: Travis Opel of Spokane,WA, Skyler Opel (Brittni)
of Cashmere, WA, and Erin Robards of Bellingham, WA; great-grandchildren:
Trenton, Alex and Noah.
A Graveside Service will be held at Evergreen Memorial Park at 10:00 a.m.,
