Obituary for Patricia M. "Pat" McDowell

Pat McDowell died peacefully in her sleep on September 11, 2017, after a
multi-year battle with cancer. Pat’s final year was greatly aided by Hospice,
a truly wonderful program/organization. Pat was born in 1939 in Rockland, ME,
to Tom and Virginia Sweeney. She has a sister, Ann Skoe, who lives with her
husband, Roger, in Canby, OR. Her father was a Merchant Marine Captain who was
often out to sea, and when in port, was usually moving the family to new
seaside locations.

Pat ended up in Bellevue, WA, for high school. Following high school, she
married and had two children: Elizabeth “Beth” Darrow Kyle (now deceased), and
Thomas Edward Darrow of Snoqualmie, WA. Pat’s first marriage did not last, and
Pat became a working mom.

After a number of entry level jobs, Pat worked her way into a job as Assistant
City Planner for the City of Bellevue, WA. It was there, she met her future
husband, Bill McDowell, with whom she happily spent the rest of her life. They
spent the first 21 of those years working together in a small legal office in
Port Angeles, WA. In 1998, they moved the then seasoned law practice to
Wenatchee, WA, where they continued to practice as a lawyer and office manager
team until early 2017. They had great fun wherever they lived or visited, and
met many wonderful friends. Sadly, Pat lost her daughter to cancer in 2007.

Pat is survived by her husband, Bill McDowell; son, Tom Darrow; daughter-in-
law, Kristine Zantua; son-in-law, Don Kyle; sister, Ann Skoe; and
grandchildren: Kyan Darrow and Sydney Darrow.

At Pat’s request, there will be no public service or life celebration. We have
journaled Pat’s final year at her Caring Bridge website
(https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/pat mcdowell). Her family would love to
have you leave comments or anecdotes, regarding Pat, at that website under the
“Comments” section. The February 2017 Caring Bridge journal entry provides
much more detail of her life. Should you feel the need to give money to Pat’s
favorite charities in lieu of flowers, the ultimate winners are, of course,
Hospice and Caring Bridge. Arrangements are assisted by Telford’s Chapel of
the Valley, East Wenatchee, WA.
