Obituary for Virgil Wayne Ferguson

Virgil Wayne Ferguson
Virgil went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday,
December 31, 2017. Virgil was born on February 23, 1933, to Herbert and Jessie
Ferguson of Wenatchee, WA. He was the youngest of three and one-half dozen
(nine) children.

Virgil graduated from Wenatchee High School in 1951, and Wenatchee Valley
College in 1953. He worked part-time at Sea-First Bank. He met his wife,
Merla, while attending college, and they were married in June of 1953. He
entered the Army in 1955, and Merla continued her college in Ellensburg, WA.
She got lonely and went to Detroit, MI, where Virgil was stationed. Virgil was
in Army Intelligence as a Classified Documents Clerk, working with the Nike
Guided Missile Defense of Detroit, MI. Discharged in 1957, he went back to
work for the bank. Their first son, Cary, was born in 1958, the same year he
was transferred to Chelan, WA. Their second child, David, was born in 1962,
the same year he was transferred to Leavenworth, WA, where he became manager.
They stayed there nine years, where he was active in a Musical Theater Group.
Virgil transferred again to Moses Lake, WA, in 1971, and then back to Chelan
in 1980, as manager. They transferred him to Wenatchee, WA, (home) in 1983,
where he remained until retirement, in l995, (after 44 years) as Vice
President and Manager of the North Central Washington Business Banking Center,
which ran from the Canadian border to Quincy, WA. He was responsible for large
business loans and all agriculture loans.

Virgil did not play any musical instruments, however, he loved to sing and
possessed a rich baritone/bass voice. He sang with the Wenatchee Apollo Club,
off and on since 1948, when he was only 15 years old. Upon his retirement, he
sang with them regularly, thru their 100th Anniversary Concert in 2010. He was
always the song leader for the service clubs he served in and the communities
he worked. He also served his Lord as song leader at Calvary Bible Church for
many years, and sang solos often. He performed at hundreds of Funerals and
Memorial Services throughout the Wenatchee Valley. He served as Treasurer for
his church for 26 years.

Virgil was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters: Dorothy, Eileen,
Lucille, Genevieve, and AlmaLee; and three brothers: Eldene, Kenneth, and
Richard. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Merla of Wenatchee, WA; his
sons: Cary Ferguson (Patricia) of Selah, WA, and David (Barbara) of Newport,
OR; two grandsons: Colby and Jesse of Selah, WA; along with many nieces and
nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2017, at 1:00 p.m.,
at Calvary Bible Church, 605 First St., Wenatchee, WA. Arrangements assisted
by Chapel of the Valley, Wenatchee, WA.
