After a tough but joyful childhood, growing up and working a small plot of
land on Stemilt Creek with her family, Ellen fell in love with James E.
Dockins. They married in 1950 and bought a home in Wenatchee, WA, where she
and James started a family.
On Saturday, January 13, 2018, Ellen died peacefully at her home in East
Wenatchee, WA, with her daughter, Debbie Dockins-Jones, and son Steve Dockins,
by her side. Ellen was born to Edward and Irene Jackson on October 28, 1933,
in her parent’s home on Stemilt Creek in Malaga, WA. She had three sisters:
Ruth, Eleonore, and her twin, Erma; and two brothers: Clarence, and Hayden.
Ellen was a ‘Supermom’ her entire life and dedicated herself to the welfare
and happiness of her three children. She worked for many years hand packing
apples while enjoying friends she worked with, and was titled “Fastest Packer
in the Valley” one year when several packing sheds had a contest. Also being a
great craftsman and master quilt maker, all of her children, grandchildren and
great-grandchildren have special quilts that Ellen made specifically for each.
Those are treasures that will be coveted for years and generations to come.
Ellen loved spending time in the outdoors, and in 1975, she and James bought a
large piece of property on San Juan Island, Washington, where they frequently
spent time with family and friends, fishing and cooking their catch around a
camp fire.
She is survived by eldest son, Steve Dockins of Laguna Niguel, CA; and
daughter, Deborah Dockins-Jones of East Wenatchee WA; as well as grandsons:
Tyler Dockins, and Chris Jones; and granddaughters: Briana Dockins-Smid and
Cara Dockins-Dickson. She also leaves behind great-granddaughters: Maggie
Jones, Annabelle Jones, Kyler Smid, Charly Smid, Aurora Dockins, (twins) Wren
and Hazel Dickson; and great-grandson, Shepherd Dockins. James and Ellen had
another son, James L. Dockins of Bellingham, WA, who passed away in 2011.
Ellen was known for her integrity, kindness, and commitment to her family. She
will be missed dearly.
A Private Ceremony will be held at her home in East Wenatchee, WA.
